Miguel Castro is senior officer at the Global Media Partnerships team, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. At the foundation since 2012, Miguel helps define and manage the foundation’s strategic partnerships and media and communications grant-making global portfolio. This includes developing projects with mainstream media organizations, international broadcasters, digital/social media and documentary. Prior to this, Miguel was special projects manager at the Media Program of the Open Society Foundations where he joined in 2004. As part of his responsibilities, he helped manage a diverse portfolio of media grants globally and he launched mediapolicy.org in 2011. A journalist by training and education, Castro has worked as a radio, print, and ENG reporter, and was press secretary to a senior public official. He has also worked as a professional photographer in the United States.
