Mafalda de Avelar is Deputy Editor in chief of Lusa, the Portugal News Agency, where she started her career as a journalist almost 19 years ago.
With an international career, Mafalda de Avelar worked in the newsrooms of Folha de S.Paulo, Gazeta Mercantil and InvestNews, all these media based in Brazil, country where she was also a correspondent for the Portuguese newspaper “O Independente”.
In Portugal, she worked at Diário Económico and SIC Notícias. She was also a columnist for Expresso.
When she moved back from Rio Janeiro – before her new position in Lusa – Mafalda was responsible for a column on international matters for Correio da Manhã and collaborated with Folha de S.Paulo, VEJA Magazine and CMTV.
Mafalda is Alumni of the Nova SBE – School of Business and Economics and Johns Hopkins University (SAIS – School of Advance International Studies); taking a Phd in ICS, Lisbon University. Theme of her thesis: corruption.
