As the Managing Editor for Digital at The Washington Post, Emilio Garcia-Ruiz oversees the newsroom’s development, implementation and execution of digital strategy. The Post is one of the world’s fastest-growing media companies and an acknowledged leader in the use of technology in a newsroom. Among his recent work was supervising a digital reorganization that created new operational and analytics roles and that better integrated product in the newsroom. He also led a successful reimagination of the video team. Before becoming a managing editor, Emilio served as the Editor for Strategic Projects, Local Editor and Sports Editor at The Post. His career includes stints as the sports editor of the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press where he directed the newspaper’s Pulitzer prize-winning investigative pieces uncovering academic fraud in the University of Minnesota men’s basketball program. Emilio has also been an assistant sports editor and copy editor at the Los Angeles Times, an assistant sports editor at the Orange County (Calif.) Register and an assignment editor and copy editor at The Post.
